Hope Rehabilitation Society presented artificial limbs for 10 disabled persons
to the Lahore Businessman Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LBARD)
during a ceremony held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on May 26th,
2009.
Speaking on the occasion, President LBARD Mohammad Pervez Malik thanked the
management of the Hope Society for the donation. He said he was happy to imagine
the disabled moving around with the help of the artificial limbs. He urged the
civil society to show the same passion in order to minimize the difficulties
facing the disabled.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister Sharif was taking extraordinary steps for the
noble cause of the rehabilitation of the displaced. Citing the example of LBARD,
he said private sector could play a vital role for the rehabilitation of the
disabled.
In her address, LBARD Secretary General Bushra Aitzaz Ahsan said LBARD was
providing a number of services including medical assistance, counseling for the
mentally disabled, speech therapy, Qarz-e-Hasana, crutches and tricycles, free
of cost. She said the number of disabled who were registered with the LABARD to
avail the facilities was in thousands. So far, LABARD had arranged jobs for more
than 1,600 disabled persons besides imparting training skills to more than
2,000, she added.
Hope Society president Dr. Khalid Niazi said that the Society annually provided
free of cost artificial limbs to 500 hundred people. He added the Society would
promote cooperation between the two organizations.
